Senegal 2-day tour - Saint-Louis & Djoudj

Between Colonial History and Wild Nature

A tour combining colonial history and wilderness

Enjoy an unforgettable getaway in northern Senegal and discover two must-see sites: Saint-Louis, a UNESCO-listed jewel of colonial heritage, and the Djoudj National Bird Park, the world's third-largest ornithological reserve.

Day-by-day program

Departure from your hotel to the island of Saint-Louis, West Africa's gateway to the ocean. This narrow strip of land, situated between the two arms of the Senegal River, offers an exceptional landscape between land and water.

Founded in 1659, Saint-Louis was the first French trading post on the Atlantic coast. As the former capital of French West Africa, it remains a remarkable example of a colonial city, a UNESCO World Heritage site with a unique atmosphere.

Lunch at Le Flamingo restaurant, overlooking the famous Faidherbe Bridge. Check-in at the hotel Siki  or similar.

In the afternoon, take a horse-drawn carriage tour of the island, featuring houses with wrought-iron balconies, museums and historical relics. The tour continues through the lively Guet-Ndar district, a mecca for artisanal fishing, with its drying kilns, shipyards and nets.

Return to hotel, dinner and overnight stay.

Departure from your hotel at 8am for the Djoudj National Bird Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1981.

This exceptional sanctuary is home to some 3 million birds, divided into over 330 species: pelicans, ducks, herons, egrets, waders, kestrels, black kites, marsh harriers, sacred ibises, cormorants, flamingos and many more. The Djoudj is now recognized as the world's third-largest bird reserve.

You'll board a pirogue for a 1? hour cruise on the marigot, discovering an incredibly rich and varied fauna.

Lunch at the Océan & Savane camp, then return to Dakar in the late afternoon.

NB: From May to October, as the Djoudj National Bird Park is closed, the excursion is replaced by the discovery of the Langue de Barbarie Reserve, located on islets in the Senegal River. Accessible only by boat or pirogue, this reserve offers an equally unique experience, with a wide variety of seabirds and an exceptional natural setting.

Please note: If the Djoudj excursion is replaced by the Langue de Barbarie excursion due to the time of year, or if the customer chooses this option by preference, a special discount will be applied to the price of this activity.
