Dakar & Gorée Island excursion - Full day
An excursion between history, culture and memory
Leave your hotel in the morning for an unforgettable day of culture, history and emotion. Discover the historic heart of Dakar before crossing to the island of Gorée, emblematic of the memory of the slave trade.
Start with the Plateau district, Dakar's administrative and cultural center. You'll visit the Cathedral of African Remembrance, the Presidential Palace, the Place de l'Indépendance, the Kermel Market, the Town Hall and the Railway Station, a jewel of colonial architecture. Then enjoy a panoramic tour of the Plateau via the small corniche, offering a magnificent view of the island of Gorée.
Embark on a 20-minute rowboat crossing to Gorée. On the island, lunch will be served in a pleasant seaside setting, at Tonton's or an equivalent restaurant.
Stroll through Gorée's peaceful, colorful streets and immerse yourself in its history with a visit to the Maison des Esclaves, with its cells and famous Porte du Non-Retour, then visit the Church of Saint-Charles and the Fort d'Estrées, now a historical museum. Each stage of this tour offers a respectful and moving immersion in the past.
Return to your hotel in the late afternoon, after a day rich in discoveries and emotions.
