Depart from your hotel in Saly or the surrounding area for Lac Rose, also known as Lac Retba, famous for having been the mythical final stage of the Paris-Dakar rally. This lake gets its pinkish hue from the presence of micro-organisms and variations in light throughout the day.
With a salt concentration of up to 380 grams per liter of water, it is one of the saltiest lakes in the world.
The exploration begins with a visit to the salt pans, where you'll discover the fascinating work of salt extraction carried out by Peul women from nearby villages, using traditional methods.
You'll continue with an all-terrain vehicle ride along the immense beach bordering the lake. This spectacular drive through dunes and wild landscapes offers many photo opportunities and panoramic stops.
